"All that is necessary for the forces of evil to win in the world is for enough good men to do nothing" -- Edmund Burke
I think about this quote today, as we face a government out of control, spending taxpayer money as if it were Monopoly money, and without much thought to the future. People knew about the holocaust, but did nothing. I fear if we know about the corruption in our government and do nothing, then evil will win in this world. Our country was founded on freedom from tyranny and control, yet people think nowadays that they should be handed everything. "Give me this" and "give me that" and "where's my share" are the attitudes taught today in schools. Not the old standby of: "Opportunity is missed by most people because it is dressed in overalls and looks like work."-Thomas A. Edison
In the 60's when this cookbook was published, someone thought enough about the world then to put that quote in. I hope we don't just sit idly by and let government take away our very freedoms.
"Those who would give up essential liberty to purchase a little temporary safety deserve neither liberty nor safety." -Benjamin Franklin

Baking Day
On baking day, when I was small
I'd pull the chair up from the wall
And watch Mom sift and mix and stir
And, every step, I'd question her.
I'd watch her with such eager eyes
As Mother baked her cakes and pies.
But, oh, my very fondest wish
Was just to get to to lick the dish.
Now that I have older grown,
In a kitchen of my own,
Four pairs of eyes beam out at me
With avid curiosity.
Questions, questions by the score!
Because, you see, they number four.
But, oh, their very fondest wish
Is, just, to get to lick the dish!

Words to live by...
"We cannot be purer than our thoughts, higher than our ideals, nor greater than our dreams; therefore, we must think correctly, foster noble ideals, and rise on the wings of imagination to the highest things of truth and experience." - American Friend
This gem was found in an old three-ring cookbook from the "United Methodist Youth Fellowship of Arthur N.D", which I picked up at a second hand shop. While I don't know who the author of this piece is, I do know they were American. God Bless America!
